Breaking News: Admiral William J. Fallon Resigns

This is just breaking: Admiral William J. Fallon has resigned.

Why is this a potentially interesting blockbusting piece of news?

This guy is a big dude in recent policy squabbles - over 4 decades of service, and presently the head of United States Central Command (CENTCOM), he was rumoured to be the lone voice protesting the Bush Administration's sabre-rattling stance on Iran.

He's gone now, and things might get pretty interesting (as in 'hot'?). There's an election coming up. Bush is going away. Democrats are threatening to win. Iraq is getting tidied up, though attacks - lowered as they have been due no doubt to the 'Surge' - are still regular and somewhat frequent. Gear is appearing that doesn't just appear out of the sky - is it coming at the behest of Tehran?

Army General David Petraeus said "You cannot win in Iraq solely in Iraq" - whatever that portends... and Army General David Petraeus' boss has just resigned.

Stay tuned.
