The Long Weekend and a Bright Red Car

This weekend is going to be a good weekend.

We are doing a major clean today, final unpacking, and arranging of the new house.

My parents are coming over on Sunday morning, we're going to have lunch, and then they'll be able to explore and poke around - they've only seen photos so far.

Yoyar is coming by on Sunday evening to perform a religious incantation involving beers - this will bless the house in a malty/hoppy kind of way.

I mowed the lawns Thursday after work, and have a little gardening I want to do.

Am going to plant tomatoes, and we'll see what else...

Monty is thoroughly enjoying the backyard and sits - as I write this - squeaking at the bottom of the basement steps wanting to go outside.

We are regulating his outside time, his leg has to heal...

We picked up Spring's car from the dealership yesterday - it is bright red.

I drove it around a little last night, it is packed with features and is just an awesome car to drive about.

Must go - good bah for now.

Dream of a White Coat

this dream never really died
it just transmuted into the unrecognized
carried in me like a body on a stretcher
and laid out for visitation
on a foggy Irish night
in a cottage
with whiskey and bread

it wore a white coat when I was young
a paramedic

it wore a white coat when i was in high school
late night studies of chromosomes and lysosomes

it wore a white coat when I became a butcher
and it wore a white coat finding dreams in the library stacks

it wore a cheap suit in an office where it cried
and none would argue it tried to appear
but I don't know where it went
maybe up north on a site by a tent

Remotion, Riddance, and a Purple Sandtree Cherry Tree

Yesterday we received an e-mail from the couple who bought our condominium - they are threatening to get a lawyer because we took an IKEA CD shelf and a bathroom shelf from the condo on the day of the move. It didn't occur to us that we were doing anything wrong, in fact we thought we were doing them a favour because they were crappy old IKEA items (not that there is anything wrong with IKEA stuff - just this stuff). Nice, eh? So I wrote a somewhat sweaty and lugubrious e-mail back, apologizing and offering to not only drive the IKEA items back to their condominium today (bowed and on my scraped knees) - suitably wrapped and boxed - but also to drop off a television console we got from IKEA. The ironic thing is that we were trying to get rid of all of the items, either by giving away to friends and family, perhaps in a garage sale or finally just in the dump. It didn't occur to us that they would want these items. Returning the TV console was a particularly brilliant idea that Spring had - now we know what to do with the damn thing.

So that's what 'fixtures' means when you move house. Don't remove fixtures boys and girls. Woops.

Archie (played by John Cleese) in A Fish Called Wanda utters the following apology:

"I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact and was in no way fair comment and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future."

Mungo's germane version is as follows:

"I offer a complete and utter return of said IKEA furnishings. The remotion and riddance was totally without basis in justification and was in no way a fair action and was motivated purely by malice and contempt, and I deeply regret any distress that my purgative actions may have caused you or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such evacuation at any time in the future."

I took a few photographs this morning of a Purple Sandtree Cherry that bloomed yesterday all-of-a-sudden in our new backyard whilst supervising Monty on his morning evacuations (as he is not allowed to be off leash until his knee recovers). Here they are, along with a few other images I found on the web for fun and interest:

The Magic Room

Today we will tidy up the Magic Room. Soon our new house will be orderly, tidy, clean, and squared away.

Tomorrow we will awaken to a house that has been ordered, tidied, cleaned and squared away.

Next week we will look back on it all and say to ourselves "Phew and golly and heck that sure was a gas."

A Muddy Glass of Water

Instruct 2 people to, within 10 weeks:

  • leave his job
  • search for a job
  • interview for a job
  • start a job
  • list condo
  • show condo
  • sell condo
  • search for a house
  • view houses
  • buy house
  • leave condo
  • move into a house
  • prepare house for living

Then instruct the other person to

  • start a full time job while maintaining her full time international business
  • move her separate financial district located office home
  • take a 12 week professional certification course
  • list condo
  • show condo
  • sell condo
  • search for a house
  • view houses
  • buy house
  • leave condo
  • move into a house
  • prepare house for living

Then observe their behavioural patterns, moods, sleep activity and communication styles.

You will find that they take a few weeks for the water to clear.

Another helpful tool for working with the mind is meditation. One form of meditation is Shinay or calming the mind. This is basically a meditation on the breath which allows the thoughts that arise in the mind to be observed without interacting with them which causes the mind to settle down so that the spaciousness or clarity of the mind can be experienced. One teacher said Shinay meditation is like placing a muddy glass of water on a table; eventually the silt settles to the bottom and the water becomes clear.

Moving and Monty

So we have moved into our new home. We spent our week navigating a labyrinth of opened packing boxes, and awkward arrangements of upended furniture, displaced cooking pots and orphaned cables. Soon it will come together, but until then we will continue to move amongst papers and dishes, and order Swiss Chalet or Pizza Pizza, or boil up the Kraft Dinner macaroni & cheese which has sustained us mostly. Trouble is, we didn't pack everything so we simply don't know where to find the basic things: spoons, remote controls (what? We actually have to stand up and change the channel? BAH!), socks, toothpaste, etc...

We picked Monty up from the surgery last Tuesday evening - he was doped up but beside him self with excitement when he saw us - his back leg is shaved and has a 5 inch stapled incision. He dangled, and skipped on it for the first couple days, but it is returning to normal, and he doesn't seem to be limping on it like he was in the weeks leading up to the surgery (he had ruptured his cardiac cruciate ligament completely in his knee). The second night after picking him up, he woke us up twice panting, and crying - probably in pain. I gave him pain medication and calmed him down. He still has to use his harness leash for his walks on the lawn, and we bought a stake with a cable so he can wander in a 15 foot circle, without fear of tripping in the bushes or getting caught in the side of the house by the fence etc... he'll be off that soon enough. I carry him up and down the stairs (good workout) out into the backyard. Spring and I took turns initially watching him, and for the first day he squeaked and cried whenever one of us left his eyesight - we suspect a bit of separation anxiety - he'd never been away from us for 4 days before, and was probably a bit nervous about us leaving him. He's improved now, and has full reign of the finished basement.

Mungo says more updates soon.
